Futaleufú River

• This river is undoubtedly one of the best options not only because of the quantity and quality of rainbow and brown trout but also because of the amazing scenery among the Andes and its eternal snow. Since the 70s the Futaleufu river has its source in a dam. This circumstance has given the river some special characteristics such as a regular flow of cold water all the year round, which means highly favourable conditions for trout and their habitat.
  
  This river, very wide in some parts, has gravelled banks, rapids and deep pools. It is lined with willows and cypress trees and even fallen trunks which offer a fantastic challenge for fly fishers. You can fish this river in many different ways and in all conditions. There are lots of mayflies, caddies, stoneflies and midges in the morning and in the evening and sometimes even all day long! In addition, its gullied banks with tall grass provide its waters with a good number of terrestrials, a good feature for those who like fishing with big dry flies and grasshoppers.
  
  Of course streams are also great for brown trout and even for Chinook salmon going upstream! The river has 25 km on the Argentine side and has different sections which allow fishing between two and four days without repeating the site. That is why it is one of the favourite rivers for fly fishing in Patagonia.
